There was a tree nearby with pretty pink tulip-shaped blooms. It looked old and blew over in a wind storm a few years back. When I asked about it I was told it was a tulip tree. It was a while before I realized it was actually a magnolia, and there are several magnolia trees in our area. They don't bloom quite as profusely as in the south, but what spectacular blooms they are. One really must see a bloom up close to fully appreciate it.
